Photo tagging and Facebook have been a topic of conversation for quite some time.  With over 140 billion photos uploaded on Facebook in 2011, which amounts to an incredible 2,500 photos per second.  If done properly, photo tagging can work seamlessly to deepen existing relationships and in the end create new opportunities. Here are some tips to lead the way towards becoming a Facebook photo tagging expert:

1 – Anyone can tag photos – The fact that anyone can tag photos is an important point to take note of.  An established professional would not want “photo vandalism” to take place on their wall/timeline.  The key factor lies in the privacy settings.  It is a must to make sure that tags are not published automatically so that there is time to review each one and eliminate the nonsense.

2 – Anyone can tag YOU – Anyone will be able to tag you and this action will usually lead to the photo being displayed on your wall/timeline as the default setting.  A professional would probably not want last night’s bar run to get tagged and show up to potential clients.  There is a privacy setting to handle this situation as well.  Make sure to have it set to review photos that get tagged with you in them.

Here is how to control photos you are tagged in:

1)  Click on Privacy Settings

2)  Click on Edit Settings next to Timeline and Tagging.

3) Click on Review posts friends tag you in before they appear on your timeline

4) Next also Click on Review tags friends add to your own posts on Facebook

By changing this setting alone if a photo has your name added to it or a friend tags it, a notification will be sent to review the tag and from there you can choose to deny or approve it.

Here is how to control who sees tag suggestions when photos that look like you are uploaded:

1)  Click on Privacy Settings

2)  Click on Edit Settings next to Timeline and Tagging.

3) Click on Who sees tag suggestions…

3 – Tags Can Be Removed - Finally, it should be noted that all tags related to you can be removed.  Be sure to review all tags carefully, and check to see if anything improper has gotten through before the privacy settings were set appropriately.  Your online reputation is extremely important and it is sometimes beneficial to have the capability to take down the bad press.

Follow the steps below to remove a tagged photo:

1)   Open the photo

2)   With your mouse hover over the photo

3)   Select Options at the bottom

4)   Choose either Report/Remove Tag
