You have to admit it – The first time you opened the box with your new iPhone, you looked inside expecting to find a user manual. Some type of booklet to get you going, but as you discovered, there were no instructions whatsoever.
So, how does one go about learning to use this device? Yes, the iPhone is simple to use, but here’s a few tips that you might not have known about. Please note – these tips will work only with the latest software update (iOS 5.1).
You can shoot a photo with the headphone cord
As you probably did know, if you hold your iPhone like a camera, you can take photos using the volume button. What you might NOT have known is that you can use the volume buttons on your headphone cord making it even easier.
Take reminders to the next level with Siri
Most of us use Siri for things such as, “What does the rest of my day look like?” or “When is my next appointment?”. But Siri can actually sense your location. For example, you can now say things like “Remind me to set out fish for dinner when I get home”. Pretty cool.
Create your own free ringtone from your music
Not happy with the pre-recorded ringtones that come with your iPhone? There’s an app for that. Use Ringtone Maker to easily create ringtone and alerts from your music.
Create a music playlist from your phone
Remember when you needed your computer with iTunes to create a playlist? Those days are a thing of the past. Within the Music app, check on PLAYLISTS, then ADD PLAYLIST. After you name your playlist, simply tap on any song or video and it will be added.
I’ve Lost my iPhone…now What?
OK, so this one is important. When you get your iPhone and are setting it up, be sure to install the Free “Find my iPhone” app. This will allow you to locate and protect the data on your lost device from another iOS device.
Water: It’s like Kryptonite for iPhones.
My iPhone got wet and isn’t working. Any suggestions?
Of course! First of all, make sure not to turn it on. Dry the outside with a towel and make sure NOT to use a heat source such as a hairdryer. Place the iPhone in a bowl and bury it in uncooked white rice for at least 24 hours (the longer, the better). This rice will help to absorb the moisture and hopefully return your iPhone to life!
These are just a few simple tips for enhancing and improving your iPhone experience. Got any more? Feel free to comment below!
